Thursday in the Third Week of Advent |
Luke 7: 24-30
When the messengers of John the Baptist had left, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John. "What did you go out to the desert to see a reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine garments? Those who dress luxuriously and live sumptuously are found in royal palaces. Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom Scripture says:
Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
he will prepare your way before you.
I tell you, among those born of women, no one is greater than John; yet the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he." (All the people who listened, including the tax collectors, who were baptized with the baptism of John, acknowledged the righteousness of God; but the Pharisees and scholars of the law, who were not baptized by him, rejected the plan of God for themselves.)
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for healing for a good friend of mine with shingles.
In my work day, I used to tune in to listen to Fr. John Corapi in the mornings. The way he delivered the Church's teachings tied in with his personal testimony offered inspiration for me in the mornings. He was someone who appeared to be a modern-day prophet and others were drawn to him. I even met someone from Scotland who attributed his conversion to the conversion story of then Fr. John Corapi.
Since then, he has left his order and left his priestly vocation.
Yet, what drew me in was how Christ worked in his life during the time he was on the air preaching. What drew me in was how He was fervent about the teachings of the Church.
If people were following the now John Corapi, they would have followed him away from the Church. It would be tragic to follow the messenger away from your home. On the other hand, if they are following Christ, they would be in line to welcome him home if he decides to come home to the Church.
May we all be participants in our baptismal call to be "prophet", pointing to Christ as St. John the Baptist did. Take care and God Bless.
