Matthew 9:9-13
As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a restoration of the dignity of the family.
Think back to a recent "having a bad day" moment...
I don't know about you, but when someone normally asks, "how's it going" I'm used to saying, "Fine, thanks!"
I often wonder if I get that way with Christ in my prayers sometimes. There can be great turmoil going on in my heart... *insert sin here*... and all I want to do is tell Christ that, "I'm fine." As if I don't need a physician or a doctor. I'm reminded of a little kid who normally says, "I can do it by myself," when you offer to help them.
St. Matthew is... well... a saint. He wasn't content with telling Christ that he was fine. Rather, he was humble enough to heed Christ's invitation to follow Him. Take care and God Bless.
