Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception
Luke 1: 26-38

The angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin's name was Mary. And coming to her, he said, "Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you." But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end." But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?" And the angel said to her in reply, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be impossible for God." Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - in thanksgiving for my engagement to Christie Brown.

First of all, I want to apologize for missing the past few days. I have had some technical troubles with the email system. I do hope that this can go out today through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother.

"My spirit rejoices in God my Savior ... "

It is a wonderful day to celebrate God as Savior! Unfortunately, many people are confused about the meaning of this day. A few nights ago when I was at an evening where the teens gathered for their weekly meetings, only a few knew what this day was about. Most of the teens thought that today was celebrating the conception of Christ (which we celebrate on the Annunciation). They didn't know that the Immaculate Conception refers to Mary's conception without original sin.

This day takes nothing away from God. Rather, it points to God's dominion over time ... creation ... man's free will. God chose to save Our Blessed Mother from original sin, thus pointing to what He desires for us: redemption from our sins.

With that in mind, today is a celebration for us. It is wonderful to celebrate the lives of the Saints for they point to the glory of God and they are now in heaven before the glory of God. Our Blessed Mother walked this earth and a living, breathing person who has been chosen to be redeemed. She is the sign that shows God's power and dominion, and a model for the hope that we all desire: redemption from sins.

Let us rejoice in God, our Savior as well as the Savior of Our Blessed Mother.

Take care and God Bless.
