Tuesday in the First Week of Advent
Luke 10: 21-24

Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him."

Turning to the disciples in private he said, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I say to you, many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the souls of Maria Torres, Vidal Torres and Chucho Torres.

I know that I'm a little late but here it goes ...

Happy New (Liturgical) Year!!!

What I think of the new year (the regular), what comes to mind is new hope. I have made my share of new years resolutions. I have made the resolution to lose weight with the hope of being healthy. I have made the resolution to be a safer driver in the hope of being less stressed. I have made resolutions to do things better, in the hope of being a better person.

When I think of new hope, often times I think about new life. I think about the greatness that each child possesses at the moment of their conception. I love talking to my brother and sister-in-law about finding out what my nephew would want to be. What sports is he going to play? What career is he going to choose? Will he come to know Our Lord and come home to the Church?

He doesn't know it, but there are so many good choices that he can make now.

It's easy when you're so bogged down with your daily life and daily career to not have that "new hope" ... the new hope of this new year ... the new hope that can be found in being childlike. I have no clue what God has in store for me, and for the most part I found that with age comes more of a concern about knowing what is in store.

This year I'm wondering what I'm going to get my nephew for Christmas. I remember when I was a child and being excited for Christmas. I wasn't excited for expecting a particular present, but rather I was excited to see what was beyond the wrapping. I was excited to see what was in store.

Many times it is frightful to see what God has in store. Yet, what if we trusted that God has something worth hoping for beyond the wrapping paper? What if we treated our neighbor with the respect of someone who has all the potential for greatness as a child (of God, that is). If we treated others with that dignity, wouldn't we also affirm it within ourselves that God made us with the same potential. If God made us with the same potential, then even if a gift doesn't make sense to us, wouldn't we trust that is good and it is for our good?

Rejoice in who you are, child of God, and rejoice in the hope God has in you and for you as we hope in Him. Take care and God Bless.
