Friday in the Third Week in Advent |
Isaiah 56:1-3a, 6-8
Thus says the LORD:
Observe what is right, do what is just;
for my salvation is about to come,
my justice, about to be revealed.
Blessed is the man who does this,
the son of man who holds to it;
Who keeps the sabbath free from profanation,
and his hand from any evildoing.
Let not the foreigner say,
when he would join himself to the LORD,
"The LORD will surely exclude me from his people."
The foreigners who join themselves to the LORD,
ministering to him,
Loving the name of the LORD,
and becoming his servants -
All who keep the sabbath free from profanation
and hold to my covenant,
Them I will bring to my holy mountain
and make joyful in my house of prayer;
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices
will be acceptable on my altar,
For my house shall be called
a house of prayer for all peoples.
Thus says the Lord GOD,
who gathers the dispersed of Israel:
Others will I gather to him
besides those already gathered.

Today's prayer intention:

One of the images God uses to describe Himself is the image of "The Bridegroom." As I look at my relationship with my girlfriend, it's a daunting task to think about all the things that needs to be done in discerning the sacrament of marriage.
In my own reading and study, I have been learning more and more about love and the expression of love (even the greatness of restraining your desire to love as a higher form of love). In this time of preparation and purification, it's amazing how today's reading really resonates within me.
We are preparing for union with Our Lord, which reminds me of the union we prepare for in the sacrament of marriage, or the vocation to priesthood and religious life. We are preparing ourselves and there is a lot of work to do. This season of Advent is such a gift we have because liturgically, we are in the same preparation. It's a built-in preparation every year of our lives to constantly grow in "purity" to prepare for our eternal union with Our Lord.
Rejoice, O Church! We will one day be united with Our Bridegroom. Take care and God Bless.
