Monday, Week 3 of Advent
Matthew 21:23-27

When Jesus had come into the temple area, the chief priests and the elders of the people approached him as he was teaching and said, "By what authority are you doing these things? And who gave you this authority?" Jesus said to them in reply, "I shall ask you one question, and if you answer it for me, then I shall tell you by what authority I do these things. Where was John's baptism from? Was it of heavenly or of human origin?" They discussed this among themselves and said, "If we say 'Of heavenly origin,' he will say to us, 'Then why did you not believe him?' But if we say, 'Of human origin,' we fear the crowd, for they all regard John as a prophet." So they said to Jesus in reply, "We do not know." He himself said to them, "Neither shall I tell you by what authority I do these things."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the children and families who were affected by the sex abuse scandals brought to light over the past few years. Let us pray that they do not fall away from God, but instead draw closer to Him in trust.

God can only reveal Himself to those who are humble enough.

The Pharisees thought that they were the authority, and so Jesus challenges them to their own game, and in turn they lose authority because they were unable to answer Jesus' challenge. They were ready to disprove who Jesus was versus accepting who Jesus really is.

Are we humble enough to accept who Jesus Christ truly is? Are we willing to put down our pride for a moment so that we can truly see that we need Him more than we need to prove that we are right? In challenging the Pharisees, we see how foolish it is to challenge God. We can read this reading and say from afar that the Pharisees are foolish. Are you saying the same things when it comes to the challenges God calls you to? Are you saying the same thing in your actions to those around you?

You know who Jesus Christ is. Let us proclaim this from the rooftops so others can proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord (and mean it). Take care and God Bless.
