Matthew 22: 1-14

Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and the elders of the people in parables saying, "The Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."' Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then the king said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.' The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. He said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those discerning their vocation.

I am thankful to be a servant of Our Lord.

I have to wonder how well I'm doing my job as a servant, and today's reading is a great way to gauge. Our Lord is so generous, but does anybody know about His generosity? Yes, it ultimately comes down to the free will of others, but I also have to wonder how effective am I in calling others to Christ? How effective am I in being charitable to my brothers and sisters if I'm neglect to tell them that they are not "wearing the right garments"?

I have been doing a lot of meditation lately -- mainly because of the time I've spend on airplanes this past weekend -- and it has me thinking about my responsibility in making sure that I am living a life "wearing the right garments". Christ indeed is the garment I must strive to wear, but at the same time, there is such a temptation to want to "accessorize" what garments of Christ I wear. This is why we have the Church, to help guide us so that we can be wearing the right garments for the feast. For so long, I have tried to piece together my own suit of spare parts that look like Christ, but often times fell short. With the Church, I no longer have to guess. I recently had the honor of being a best man at my friend's wedding, and on the day of the wedding, all I had to do was open the garment bag and put on the tuxedo. I didn't have to worry about trying to figure out things; I had exactly what I needed for the feast in my bag.

I know that God has done so much in preparing the grand feast for us. What a tragedy it would be if my attitude was that of merely just showing up. I want to rejoice in Him and with Him. Take care and God Bless.
