John 12: 24-26
Jesus said to his disciples: "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there also will my servant be. The Father will honor whoever serves me."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for safety for those who are traveling.
I recently watched two "comic book" movies: Thor and Captain America. In both movies, there is a moment when the hero does a courageous act: they place their lives on the line in order that others may live. Even in the movies, the idea of placing the good before your own life is heroic.
What is striking in the movies is that a lot of times, the "hero" seems to become that way after a "light bulb" moment which is often tied to humility.
I often wonder how we can lay down our lives for Christ so that He can bear much fruit. Yet, as Christ shows us, it is in humility that we are able to lay down our lives. It is in humility that a we can see beyond ourselves and see the greater good.
Christ Himself was perfectly obedient to the Father, and is through that obedience that He was able to "fall to the ground and die" in order to "produce much fruit". That is humility. That is how we can pursue true greatness ... greatness in God alone ... greatness in following the ways of the Father ... greatness in imitating and being in union with the Son ... greatness in being led by the Holy Spirit.
We can be great if we have the courage to be humble. Take care and God Bless.
