Matthew 10: 16-23
Jesus said to his Apostles: "Behold, I am sending you like sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and simple as doves. But beware of men, for they will hand you over to courts and scourge you in their synagogues, and you will be led before governors and kings for my sake as a witness before them and the pagans. When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say. You will be given at that moment what you are to say. For it will not be you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will hand over brother to death, and the father his child; children will rise up against parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but whoever endures to the end will be saved. When they persecute you in one town, flee to another. Amen, I say to you, you will not finish the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - that you may "endures to the end."
Around ten years ago, I had a great opportunity to serve The Lord by serving the poor. Unfortunately, this would meant giving up a secure and promising job, which was fine with me. For my parents, though, they protested.
My parents are great and wonderful people. My father prays before he does anything: when he wakes up in the morning, before he leaves the house, before he starts the car ... etc. My mother is someone who, by her nature, served the outcast, much like her mother. So, it was surprising to hear their protest.
That was ten years ago, and it is also eight and a half years after I left. If I sought to please my parents, I wouldn't have had the great experiences I had that has been a huge part of my walk with Our Lord. It was a great time to lean on Our God, and it laid the foundation for the many times that I have experienced hardship later (if God has provided for me in the past, He will continue to provide for me in the present and future).
In today's reading, there is one line that stuck out to me: "whoever endures to the end will be saved." In the same way that I could rely on God to be the same "yesterday, today, and forever," I also realize that I need to "endure to the end," which is a scary thought. There will be many other times when conflict will arise as I discern God's will for me in my life. Please pray that I may endure to the end, and I offer the same prayer for you.
Take care and God Bless.
