Luke 21:12-19
Jesus said to the crowd: "They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a special intention.
Persecution used to look like being thrown to the lions or being beheaded.
Today, persecution looks much different. It's much more subtle and plays to virtuous things such as "tolerance" and "unity." Obedience to God has been replaced with obedience to self. From this we have relativism and other means that compromise what is truly good and beautiful.
Today, persecution attacks the mind and soul of a person much more than their body. The beauty of being made "male" and "female" has been blurred. Personal responsibility does not exist. We withhold charity because we do everything we can to mask the aches of our hearts.
Today, persecution comes from video games, television, movies, radio, magazines, and everything else that tries to replace the fact that we all have an ache for Our Lord. We all have a desire to be loved and to receive the love we have from The One Who knows us most intimately. We want to solve our pains immediately so why not numb yourself with the lives of others through tabloids or satisfy your desire for intimacy with the pornography that is free to anyone who can turn on a computer.
Today, just like at the time of Jesus, we are being handed over to our persecutors unknowingly. A mother buys her child a "teen" magazine that causes her to hate herself because she doesn't look like the women in the magazine. A father who buys a video game console because his son's friends all have it. It goes on and on and on.
If today's Christians were being threatened to be fed to the lions, maybe then would stand up for the truth more. Maybe then we would turn to God in our times of distress versus turning to things that can numb our minds but kill our souls. I apologize for the long tirade. In reality, it's me that I'm fed up with. Let us desire to be martyrs who give our whole lives to God. Take care and God Bless.
