Mark 8:34–9:1

Jesus summoned the crowd with his disciples and said to them, "Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and that of the Gospel will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life? What could one give in exchange for his life? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this faithless and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels."

He also said to them, "Amen, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see that the Kingdom of God has come in power."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for a special intention.

I apologize for the past two days of missing readings and reflections. It's been a hectic week. Please say a prayer for me when you get a chance.

Someone said to me this past week, "my only regret is that I didn't spread the Good News of Christ with more conviction."

What does more conviction look like to you?

We often think of someone who is more passionate and alive about their faith. I think more conviction looks more like today's reading. You don't have to be a dynamic speaker with enough energy to power a small city in order to preach the Gospel with more conviction. What it takes is a phrase that we have been given throughout the Bible:

"Do not be afraid."

Christ, in today's reading, calls us to abandon all the things that we are afraid of -- either afraid of losing or afraid of giving -- so that we may be glorified in Him and not ashamed of before Him.

So, what does more conviction look like to you? Take care and God Bless.
