Matthew 9:14-15
The disciples of John approached Jesus and said, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast much, but your disciples do not fast?" Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who struggle with depression.
There is a time for everything. There will come a time of great joy when we will all one day see the "Beatific Vision" when we are with Our Lord in heaven.
While we are here on earth, we must prepare our hearts for this vision. One way in which we will prepare for this is through fasting. When done with the right intent and attitude, our fasts should turn our hearts toward Our Lord (sounds very similar to the Beatific Vision). This is the hope that we are striving for.
Knowing this, fasting strips us of our pride, allowing us to be humble. In light of that, those striving to live a virtuous life should fast. Fasting allows us to grow in virtue, allowing us to imitate Christ, and helping us not to separate ourselves in sinfulness. Again, preparing us for the Beatific Vision.
This is our hope. This is what we are working towards today. Take care and God Bless.
