Matthew 15:1-2, 10-14
Some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, "Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands when they eat a meal." He summoned the crowd and said to them, "Hear and understand. It is not what enters one's mouth that defiles the man; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one." Then his disciples approached and said to him, "Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?" He said in reply, "Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the safety of those who are traveling to World Youth Day in Cologne, Germany.
There's a quote that I read...
"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."
This quote reminds me of the people who say they don't need to go to church because they worship in their own way. While this is true to an extent, why would Christ institute The Church in the first place? Would it be so that the enlightened would stop being obedient to the church when they get to a point where their intellect left no room for the wonder of faith? Would it be so that we'd get to a point where we no longer needed to be obedient because we have "evolved" so far beyond Christ's wisdom?
We have taken the virtue of tolerance to a whole new level. We have taken it to the point where obedience is optional, and to some, absurd. If I could rewrite the quote, it would say, "But for good people to do evil things, that takes disobedience." Take care and God Bless.
