Mark 6:53-56
After making the crossing to the other side of the sea, Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a special intention.
For some reason, today's reading reminded me of "fads". In particular, fad diets.
A few years ago I was on the Atkin's diet and I can attest to it that I lost a lot of weight, but the minute my eating habits changed, the weight would come back with a vengance. At my old job, a few jobs ago, everyone followed suit in going on the Atkin's diet, and then proceeded to other methods such as the cleanse, South Beach, etc. I saw people's eating habits go from normal to "what's in".
Today's reading reminds me of a fad diet because all of a sudden, Jesus was the new "in" thing. Unfortunately, we know that as the Gospel story unfolds, some will be lost when Jesus proclaims the "Bread of Life" discourse and, by the time we arrive at the Crucifixion, there was Mary, Mary Magdalene and John, the beloved disciple.
There will be many other metaphorical "fad diets" that Satan will try to use to draw you away from Christ, Who is relevant for all time... into eternity. I read an interesting quote this morning (and I'm paraphrasing): Suffering lasts but a moment, but the endurance to endure suffering endures until eternity.
With every trial... every false promise... don't get caught up in "fads" but stay faithful and obedient to "The Way, The Truth and The Light." Take care and God Bless.
