Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter |
John 3: 7b-15
Jesus said to Nicodemus: "'You must be born from above.' The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus answered and said to him, 'How can this happen?" Jesus answered and said to him, "You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this? Amen, amen, I say to you, we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony. If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those who live in persecution for their faith.
I came to believe in Our Lord because I was spared from an accident that should have killed me and my passenger. I came to believe because I saw the devotion of many who were faithful. I came to believe because I was able to see God's hand in my daily life. I came to believe because I was able to hear the word of God and receive the Sacraments.
Hopefully, when my time on this earth comes to an end, I can be among those who believes in Our Lord.
Through my car accident, I believe that wearing a seat belt saves lives. If I were to get into a car and start driving without putting on my seat belt, am I saying that I don't believe that seat belts don't save live? Am I saying that I don't care much about my life so as to not wear my seatbelt at all?
Most of the time, I would think that it comes from a point of pride: I won't get into a car accident. That belief will not save me when it comes time for an accident.
We can believe that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. We can believe that He suffered greatly and offered His life for us on the cross.
We can humbly pray for wisdom from the Holy Spirit, that we may know Our Lord's ways and follow it despite our pride. We can pray for humility in knowing that the Holy Spirit is leading the Church, and therefore trusting in Her teaching.
