2 Corinthians 4: 7-15

Brothers and sisters: We hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us. We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the Body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed, therefore I spoke," we too believe and therefore speak, knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and place us with you in his presence. Everything indeed is for you, so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for a 13 year old boy who is struggling with cancer spreading throughout his whole body and for all those who are struggling with cancer.

Do you believe that God set us up to fail?

Sometimes, I'm like a two-year old with God who likes to answer every answer with a simple word, "Why?" In our supposed "enlightenment," we still struggle with the trials of our lives, the pain we must go through and our weaknesses.

St. Paul reminds us in today's reading that God never sets us up to fail. We may choose to fail in our own petty arrogance, and that is the consequence of free will. God gives us trials, but we make the choices. It is our choice to feel constrained, despairing, persecuted and abandoned. It is our choice to be vessels or gods. It is our choice to choose arrogance or humility.

St. Paul reminds us that we hold a treasure in these earthen vessels. It is our choice to receive and take in the Body of Christ. We are the earthen vessels of Christ to remind everyone of God's love, justice, mercy and forgiveness. We indeed have the treasure that everyone is seeking and we must share our treasure. If you won the lottery, what would you do? Would you share the money or would you hoard the money for yourself? Those who know how to love would share and give away what they have. Those who do not trust in God's providence will hoard the money. Therefore, we must trust in God's providence that the REAL treasure that we have must be shared throughout this world (hence, Jesus' commissioning of the disciples.) May we continue to trust in the Lord, that He will provide and that He will never set us up to fail. Anything less is of Satan. Take care and God Bless.
