Luke 6:39-42
Jesus told his disciples a parable: "Can a blind person guide a blind person? Will not both fall into a pit? No disciple is superior to the teacher; but when fully trained, every disciple will be like his teacher. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,' when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see clearly to remove the splinter in your brother's eye."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who are affected by Hurricane Ike.
I'm the worst social networker in the world. The only reason why I have a MySpace and a Facebook account is because I'm a Web designer / developer and I need to understand the workings of these things.
Well, Facebook has this thing where you can put down what you are doing. I put up a generic one because I know I'm never going to update it. If I had to be honest, though, it would say something like:
"Theo Tigno is not doing the things he should be doing because he's too busy worrying about what people think ..."
"Theo Tigno is too busy to write something down because he needs to learn that saying no is in a way saying yes to being the person God wants you to be ..."
"Theo Tigno is ..." (you get the point)
What is our "what are we doing now" profile saying to God? What is that profile saying to others? Is it the profile that we want God to see? Is it the profile we want others to see.
The great thing about the internet is that we can hide behind an avatar and we can choose to reveal what we want to reveal. To God and to others, we don't have that crutch. I guess that's why it's so appealing.
I want to be more than the avatar or the "what am I doing now" 1 line statement. I want to be someone who is truly working on being holy. I want to be someone who is not afraid to look at the things in my life that hold me back from being holy. In being not afraid to look at them, I pray that I can be brave enough to bring it to Christ.
I know I'm not perfect. All I can pray for is that my "what am I doing now" statement can look like this:
"Theo Tigno is striving to be holy ..." Take care and God Bless.
