Luke 12: 49-53
Jesus said to his disciples: "I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing! There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished! Do you think that I have come to establish peace on the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. From now on a household of five will be divided, three against two and two against three; a father will be divided against his son and a son against his father, a mother against her daughter and a daughter against her mother, a mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for an end to abortion and the use of contraception.
Prepare yourself. If you want to follow the Gospel with the dignity of Christ, you will also participate in the "baptism" of suffering He endured.
It is a blessing that we can meditate on Our Lord's passion and death because in it, we can see goodness in our hardships. We can see the goodness that will help us when we are divided against those we love and admire. It should be Christ we love and admire more.
If that is the case, then I know I need to spend more time with Christ because it's hard for me to let go of the opinion of others for Someone I know from a distance or Someone I know intellectually. I need to spend time with My Beloved if I'm ever going to be able to be strong enough to endure division with those on this earth I love.
If that is the case, then why am I not spending more of my time with Christ in the Sacraments? Why am I not spending more time with Christ in prayer and the scriptures? Why am I not spending more time with Christ in the poor? The one answer I can think of is because I fear the division. I want peace and unity, but often times striving for peace and unity means reducing the dignity of the person I'm trying to make peace with. Often times, striving for peace and unity means ignoring my own dignity.
Which brings me back to spending more time with Our Lord Whom I desire to be my Beloved. My dignity is not in being socially accepted here on earth, but in being a child of God. As I child, I need to know the ways of my Heavenly Father, and I need to know the obedience of the Son of Man.
Lord, give us the desire to love You more today than we did yesterday.
Take care and God Bless.
