Sacred Heart of Jesus |
Luke 15: 3-7
Jesus addressed this parable to the Pharisees and scribes: "What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.' I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those in public service positions, that they remember their calling to protect those they serve, from conception to natural death.
It's the stuff of many stories through the ages ...
- The beloved is sought by the Lover
- The Lover sacrifices in order to find the beloved
- The beloved is found and there is joy in that finding
In many of those stories, the beloved was a treasure to the Lover. There were certain "characteristics" that drew the Lover to the beloved. Yet, what is the characteristic of the the beloved in today's reading ... lost.
Actually, this could be said about many of the stories as well: the Lover pursued the beloved not for His own good, but for the good of the beloved.
With the popularity of these "stories" in movies and novels, we know that it's something God created in us. Our lives truly are incomplete without Christ, our Beloved, loving us for our sake. Hollywood tries to portray this, but without Christ, we fall short of fulfilling that desire.
Currently, I feel like that lost sheep. When I was a kid, I was told that if you get lost, stay in the same place so that it would be easier for your parents to find you. I remember the moment I got lost in the store when I was 3 years old. I didn't listen very well and I wandered throughout the store. (Thankfully, a store member noticed the little kid crying in the store and announced that I was missing over the PA.)
Christ wants to find us, but He cannot if we don't allow ourselves to be still so that he can save us. Our hearts need to be in a place where Christ can find us.
Be still and know that He is God. Take care and God Bless.
