Luke 19: 1-10
At that time Jesus came to Jericho and intended to pass through the town. Now a man there named Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector and also a wealthy man, was seeking to see who Jesus was; but he could not see him because of the crowd, for he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree in order to see Jesus, who was about to pass that way. When he reached the place, Jesus looked up and said, "Zacchaeus, come down quickly, for today I must stay at your house." And he came down quickly and received him with joy. When they saw this, they began to grumble, saying, "He has gone to stay at the house of a sinner." But Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, "Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I shall give to the poor, and if I have extorted anything from anyone I shall repay it four times over." And Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is a descendant of Abraham. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save what was lost."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the soul of Maria Torres.
I have always been bad at sending back RSVP's. So many times, invitations end up piling up along with the bills I have received. So, the invitation sits.
Zacchaeus does not let the invitation of Christ sit. He responds with great joy and recognizes that in receiving and accepting the call, he also has a responsibility. How many of you would accept the invitation to a wedding and not bring a gift?
Yet, there is something about receiving this calling. Why would God continue to offer his invitation to each of us? He offers the invitation to Zacchaeus in his brokenness, and even points out that he came for the lost. If we are invited, is it because it is for our own good as well? Is it because we are lost and the invitation that we receive is medicine for our souls?
If this is the case, then why turn away your medicine? Everyday we are called by Our Lord. Everyday, Christ desires to "stay in our house". Christ desires salvation to come to your house, and so with great love, receive His calling knowing that it is for your good that He has "come to seek." Take care and God Bless.
