Mark 2:23-28

As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain. At this the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?" He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?" Then he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.

Dawg's thought

Today's prayer intention is for the repose of the soul of Rose Kissell.

God gives us commands for freedom, no oppression.

In our own lives, it may seem that God's commands hinder us from who we truly are. This is Satan's plan, as we see from be beginning when Satan lied to Eve. We see this again today as the Pharisees twists "the law" for their own means versus the true meaning of The Sabbath.

We must never lose sight that God is infinitely good. In today's first reading, St. Paul states that "it was impossible for God to lie." Also, in today's first reading from Hebrews, St. Paul states, "we who have taken refuge might be strongly encouraged to hold fast to the hope that lies before us." God's commands free us, and bring us hope. A hope that one day we will be with Our Lord in heaven, free to praise The Lamb without fear of oppression. Take care and God Bless.
