Psalm 23:1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6

Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.

He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage.

You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for an end to the recognition of same-sex marriages and for an increase in true chastity among all of God's children, regardless of their sexual orientation.

Often in movies, the hero (or heroine) of the movie will be in a dark area (a forest at night... a dark hallway... an abandoned house... ). As they look around, we (the audience) are in suspense because we don't know where the villain is hiding or if the story told earlier in the movie is true about the falling spiders that no man has been able to escape. All we're able to do is watch the movie in suspense.

Somehow, there's that hope in each of us that the hero will be able to escape the doom that lies in that dark area. We have that hope because we want the hero to succeed.

As we look at our own lives and the dark corridors we must pass through, we lack that confidence that our hero lacks. The confidence that we lack can be found in today's reading: Psalm 23. It is true confidence and trust in Our Lord that we will be able to pass through the dark corridors of our lives, knowing that if we encounter our greatest fears of snakes, spiders or 30-foot octopi, we will be able to pass through because "The Lord is at our side." Take care and God Bless.
