Tuesday in the First Week of Lent
Matthew 6: 7-15

Jesus said to his disciples: "In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

"This is how you are to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

"If you forgive men their transgressions, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your transgressions."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those in Japan who are affected by the earthquake, and for the repose of the souls of those who lost their life.

If we were to paint a picture of Our Father from this prayer, what would it look like? I started taking parts of the prayer and broke it down ...

* He is in Heaven.
* His name is holy.
* He show us His will.
* He provides us with what we need daily.
* He forgives sins.
* He desires us to love as He loves.
* He does do not lead us to sin.
* He will help us turn from evil.

It is a true blessing that Christ reveals The Father by giving us words so that we can communicate to Him. While this prayer cannot fully paint a picture of the Father, it does reveal to us in simple terms who we are as His children.

Out of the eight lines extracted from the prayer, there is one line that is a gentle reminder for me: He shows us His will.

How often do I ask (well, sometimes it borders demanding) that He show me His will versus simply praying the Our Father and trusting the words of Jesus? How easy it is to want to control, and in wanting control, want to grasp at the "knowledge" that God has. Two people reached out that "knowledge" in the Garden of Eden, and we are just like them.

God show us His will. God provides us with what we need daily. God forgives us our sins ...

Let us trust that the words that Christ gives us are truth, and in having faith in that, trusting the picture of The Father revealed in that prayer. Take care and God Bless.
