Luke 14:25-33

Great crowds were traveling with Jesus, and he turned and addressed them, "If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. Which of you wishing to construct a tower does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if there is enough for its completion? Otherwise, after laying the foundation and finding himself unable to finish the work the onlookers should laugh at him and say, 'This one began to build but did not have the resources to finish.' Or what king marching into battle would not first sit down and decide whether with ten thousand troops he can successfully oppose another king advancing upon him with twenty thousand troops? But if not, while he is still far away, he will send a delegation to ask for peace terms. In the same way, everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple."

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the close count in AZ for the same-sex marriage amendment, that the end of the count would mean that marriage is defined as "one man and one woman."

How many of you like to play, "You can have this, this and this, but I still want to keep this," with God? We practice it enough in our daily lives. It's integrated enough in our civil lives. It carries over into our spiritual lives.

Instead of builders who sit down and look at the plans and budget everything out, we're builders who sit down and look for ways to take shortcuts so that we don't have to spend as much. Ultimately, take enough shortcuts and you compromise the structure to where it's not stable.

Are we "compromising the structure" in our relationship with God? I always get, "pray that I find a wife," from single friends versus, "pray that I know and accept God's will." In other news, I myself have a hard time of letting things go in my own life. I talked to a priest yesterday about healing from a relationship that's now over and he said that I have to continually give it back to God over and over again.

I directed a retreat at the end of September through the first of October. For the retreat I wrote a prayer that, if you wanted to use in your own spiritual life, you can incorporate:

--

O Holy Spirit,
Third Person of The Most Holy Trinity,
I invite You into my heart to purify me
that I may desire The Father's will above my own desires.

Help me to imitate Jesus Christ,
Who is truly present in The Most Holy Eucharist.
He remained obedient to The Father as He prayed,
"Not as I will, but as You will, Father."

I offer *insert struggle/sacrifice/offering* for my own purification
that in my desire to humbly follow You
others may see The Eucharist I have received.

I ask this through JESUS CHRIST, My Lord. Amen.

--

Let us strive for building the best building we can. Let us not skimp on the budget, but rather, let us give all that we have back to Our Lord and Our God, Who multiplied the loaves and fishes. Take care and God Bless.
