John 14: 27-31a
Jesus said to his disciples: "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. You heard me tell you, 'I am going away and I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, but the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me."
Dawg's thought:
The prayer intention for today's reading is for all those who are unemployed, especially for friends that I know who are seeking work.
"Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid."
What cross have you been given to carry today? What struggle weighs heavy on your heart this morning? What is the recurring theme in your life that causes you to turn from God?
God did not make you to fail. Christ gives us His peace and we must find comfort in this peace. Yesterday I was extremely troubled because I looked at my life and I saw how easily I can be drawn away from God through my pride. The more and more I see pride, the more and more I see how pride is a "bug" in our programming caused by fear.
Although my heart was troubled, I took comfort in God's mercy. God does not call us to fail, but rather gives us His peace so that we may seek reconciliation with Him. We should never fear coming to the Lord as imperfect as we are because Our God is a God who loves. In Him great mercy, He shows us the ugliness of our hearts so that we can be with Him. In revealing our sinfulness, Our God is being merciful because we have fallen so far and He wants to restore us. This is why Christ came into the world so that we may be reconciled with God.
Therefore, let us rejoice and pray in thanksgiving for our trials and our crosses, for these will help lead us to heaven where God wants us to be. Take care and God Bless.
