Luke 17:7-10

Jesus said to the Apostles: "Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, 'Come here immediately and take your place at table'? Would he not rather say to him, 'Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished'? Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, 'We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.'"

Dawg's thought:

Today's prayer intention is for the restoration of the dignity of marriage as "one man and one woman."

When we come to serve The Lord, there's the temptation to say, "Okay, Lord, I have done this, now give me this." In a goal-driven society, it's easy to see how many Christians fall into this temptation of "serving" in order to achieve an earthly goal versus desiring the heavenly reward.

There's a text in one of the Eucharistic prayers that says something to the effect of, "Lord, our praise adds nothing to Your greatness, but the true gift is the ability to praise You." It's a tough thing to try to accept when in our own society we have to work "extra hard" to "get ahead". It seems that in the spiritual life, the gift is working "extra hard" for God's glory. Our gift is not the reward of service, but the opportunity we have to serve.

This is why we must be good stewards of not only our treasure, but also our talents. We have been given our talents to serve God, and that is a tremendous gift! How many of us give glory to God for giving us the gifts to praise Him? I can't think of a time I have done that.

So...

All glory and honor to You, Father,
Who, in your mercy, have given me
the means to give you honor.
I praise You for the opportunity each morning
to give you glory through writing these reflections.
I praise You for the opportunity to glorify Your name
through the gift I have in music.
I praise You for the opportunity to lead others to Your truth
through my gifts in art and design.
Lord, I want to be Your servant.
I see how You are leading me to serve
through the gifts that I have.
Purify me that I may be a good steward
of Your gifts to me.

I give You glory through Jesus Christ,
My Lord and My God, Who,
with You and The Holy Spirit,
live and reign forever and ever. Amen!

Take care and God Bless.
