Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Matthew 1: 18-23

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found with child through the Holy Spirit. Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:

Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,

which means "God is with us."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those who are traveling.

Mary is known as the "Spouse of the Holy Spirit". Through her spousal union with the Holy Spirit she is the "Mother of God" ... the mother of Jesus Christ.

We can easily get to know someone, but how often does our view of a person grow if we come to know their spouse or their mother? Better yet, if we have the chance to meet someone's mother or spouse, doesn't that signify a more intimate relationship? When you're in dating relationship, it's it an important step when you meet the parents of the person you are courting? When you spend time with a co-worker and their spouse, doesn't that usually mean that you are more than "co-workers"?

When I was in the infancy of learning my faith, I used to subscribe to the idea that you could have an deep relationship with God without the Blessed Virgin Mary. I used to think that the Holy Scriptures and the Sacraments was all that was needed.

Yet, if we come to know Mary as the "Mother of God" and "Spouse of the Holy Spirit", wouldn't we come to the realization that an authentic knowledge and intimacy with Our Blessed Mother would only help us know Christ and the Holy Spirit?

If this is the case, it is understandable that the evil one would want to discourage anyone from knowing Our Blessed Mother. In fact, it could also help shed a little more light as to why motherhood and marriage is under attack. God respected the "yes" of Mary ... God respected her "yes" to be His spouse ... God respected her "yes" to be His mother.

As we celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, may we have an openness to knowing God more intimately through His spouse ... through His mother ... the Blessed Virgin Mary. Take care and God Bless.
