Monday in the First Week of Advent
Matthew 8: 5-11

When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, "Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully." He said to him, "I will come and cure him." The centurion said in reply, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it." When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, "Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the soul of Fr. Joe Fichtner.

What a blessed reminder we have today as we enter Advent ...

"... only say the word ..."

We want to be holy. We want to be successful. We want to be comfortable. We want a lot of things, but it is only through God that we will receive these blessings. If we do not receive what we deem as our "want", then ultimately it is because it is not for our good.

I wonder how today's reading would turn out if were in today's setting ...

* * *

"Lord, my computer at home isn't working."

"I will come and fix it."

"Well, thanks for doing that. After all, I try to live my life as best as I can. Definitely better than a lot of society. So, before I even asked, I figured you wouldn't turn me down."

* * *

God doesn't have to do anything. God is not obliged to help us according to what we conceive in our head is our "due". Yet, God does bless us, and help us, and love us by His free will.

Rejoice in that, and if God doesn't respond to our prayers according to what we have requested, then rejoice in that too. Rejoice in that because it is God Himself Who knows that in the withholding of our request, He is still blessing us and loving us.

Take care and God Bless.
