Mark 7: 24-30
Jesus went to the district of Tyre. He entered a house and wanted no one to know about it, but he could not escape notice. Soon a woman whose daughter had an unclean spirit heard about him. She came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by birth, and she begged him to drive the demon out of her daughter. He said to her, "Let the children be fed first. For it is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs." She replied and said to him, "Lord, even the dogs under the table eat the children's scraps." Then he said to her, "For saying this, you may go. The demon has gone out of your daughter." When the woman went home, she found the child lying in bed and the demon gone.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for an end to abortion and the use of contraception.
This ministry has a unique name, "Dawg's thought." It came a long time ago when I used to go by "T-Dawg" (at a time when I was too young to drink) and my email address was "tdawg@ ... "
Now, many years later, I'd like to think that God could even use my youthful blindness to bring about some good. After all, I still like to think of myself as a dog who receives the goodness from God, although not directly from His hand.
When we think of the Saints who have gone before us, we can read their writings and look back at their lives and catch a glimpse of the goodness of God.
I think about the priests who have been in my life ... those who I know who have been educated in theology and philosophy and divinity ... those who live lives that are holy ... and I cannot help but think of myself as receiving good things from God.
As the dogs eat the children's scraps, we know that the children probably didn't cook the meal. They probably didn't buy the food at the store. They lived their lives, and we receive nourishment and encouragement because of God's goodness overflowing from their plates.
This is how we know that God's grace is enough for us! As God feeds us as well, may there be abundant scraps long after we have eaten our fill of His providence. Take care and God Bless.
