Luke 4:24-30
Jesus said to the people in the synagogue at Nazareth: "Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place. Indeed, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah when the sky was closed for three and a half years and a severe famine spread over the entire land. It was to none of these that Elijah was sent, but only to a widow in Zarephath in the land of Sidon. Again, there were many lepers in Israel during the time of Elisha the prophet; yet not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian." When the people in the synagogue heard this, they were all filled with fury. They rose up, drove him out of the town, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their town had been built, to hurl him down headlong. But he passed through the midst of them and went away.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for Melissa, who has been battling cancer for the past 2 years and has 2 children.
How will you react to the truth?
There will be many who will call you to conversion in your life, regardless of how small or how large. When we hear the truth, it is normally in the context that calls us to conversion or affirmation. Everyone loves to hear truth that comes in the form of affirmation, but somehow hearing the truth that's delivered for our conversion hits our pride in a way that doesn't feel very good.
Those who heard Jesus' message in the synagogue didn't take the truth very well. Jesus proclaimed the truth to them, and their response was "fury." I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't react in the same way. In fact, I normally feel that way once I'm remind of my weakness in cleanliness and organization.
We must be humble enough to accept the truth as a call to conversion in our lives. God calls each of us to holiness, and in love He challenges us. It was the proud who drove Jesus out of town; will your pride drive Jesus out of your life? Take care and God Bless.
