Feast of the Presentation of The Lord |
Luke 2:22-32 (This is the optional; it really should be 22-40)
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
"Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention:
"For 11 years old Riley Sorreson who has fought brain cancer most of her life. She just had surgery to have the tumor removed and ended up having a stroke. She is not in good condition and needs all the prayers she can get."
Today is Feast of the Presentation of The Lord.
Faith and Obedience
I never thought about it, but faith and obedience work hand in hand. Take Mary and Joseph in today's reading as an example (and what a great example they are). They are obedient to the law, and their obedience is through their faith in The Lord. Simeon is in the same boat: his faith allowed him to be obedient.
As for us today, we do not need to "wait" until our old age to see Our Lord. He is waiting for us, and He is ready to give Himself to us. He is waiting for us in The Most Holy Sacrament of The Eucharist. He is waiting for us His Word, the Most Holy Scriptures. There is no more waiting; come and receive Him. Obediently come in faith, and receive The One who consoles and redeems. Take care and God Bless.
