Luke 13: 31-35
Some Pharisees came to Jesus and said, "Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you." He replied, "Go and tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I accomplish my purpose. Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day, for it is impossible that a prophet should die outside of Jerusalem.'
"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling! Behold, your house will be abandoned. But I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those that you know who have turned from the Church and her teachings.
The work of God will go on.
In the place where I live, Phoenix, Arizona, the weather is starting to get to that place where everyone starts saying, "this is why we live here." We endured a long period of days where the temperatures are above 100 degrees, but now the temperature is starting to settle down.
When the summertime comes around, you know it is a time when you have to turn on your air conditioning and drink more fluids. I remember my first summer here and it was difficult. Yet, this past August commemorates my 18th summer in Arizona, and it wasn't as difficult as I remember the first one being.
Can you imagine someone trying to tell the sun to stop shining or to stop being so intense? I have heard many people say, "I can't wait until summer is over," but I have never heard anyone say, "sun, you need to stop shining so much."
It's funny, then, to think of someone trying to tell the Son of the Maker of the Sun to stop doing His Father's will.
If we are striving to do God's will, we have confidence that His will, in the end, will be done regardless. We also know that if we pray in full confidence that His will is our ultimate good, then regardless of the outcome, as long as we are obedient we win. We may need to make adjustments and that's okay.
I may pay a lot more on my electric bill in the summertime, but I have come to expect it. I no longer fight it or act surprised when the bill is higher.
In the same way, we can try to fight the hardships and trials of our lives, or we can remember that Jesus invites us to share in His suffering and in His work. If we are called to share in His work, let us rejoice for regardless of the will of man, the work of God will go on. Take care and God Bless.
