Feast of St. Matthew |
Matthew 9:9-13
As Jesus passed by, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post. He said to him, "Follow me." And he got up and followed him. While he was at table in his house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat with Jesus and his disciples. The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" He heard this and said, "Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do. Go and learn the meaning of the words, I desire mercy, not sacrifice. I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those who are being persecuted for their faith, that God give them comfort in knowing Him through His Passion and Death.
Today is the Feast of St. Matthew.
When Pope Benedict XVI came under criticism last week, I not only worried for his life, but also for the lives of Christians. It brought me into thinking about the early Christians and how they used to hid as Christians were being persecuted. Can you imagine?
There is persecution that goes on in today's world and as I read through today's reading regarding whom Jesus associated Himself with, it made me think about the Christians who are persecuted and martyred for their faith. I say this because Jesus took on persecution for whom he was with in today's reading, St. Matthew. St. Matthew gave his life for the sake of Christ, both in his actions and in his blood.
May we have the strength and the courage to give our lives for Christ as He gave His life for ours. Take care and God Bless.
