Romans 8: 31b-39
Brothers and sisters: If God is for us, who can be against us? He did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him? Who will bring a charge against God's chosen ones? It is God who acquits us. Who will condemn? It is Christ Jesus who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword? As it is written:
For your sake we are being slain all the day;
we are looked upon as sheep to be slaughtered.
No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for those affected by the fires in California, and for an end to the fires.
Nothing can separate us from God
As I was driving into work today, I didn't have this thought in my head. The thoughts in my head were rather different from this statement (and I will not go any further in explaining). At some point while driving, though, I realized that it was my choice to feel and react this way and it was my choices that put me in this situation.
We know that God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-loving. We know that the statement above is true. We know that we have nothing to fear. Yet, we still choose to separate ourselves from God. We don't think of it at the time because we are too interested in satisfying what cannot be satisfied and we are too busy getting frustrated in not getting things done our way. We make the choice to be separated from God.
There is one place for people who choose to be separated from God: hell.
At this point, I'm sure some of you think that I should lighten up, but the reality is that hell is a very real thing. We are being tested right now and we are being formed in such a way that every decision that we make contributes to how we will respond to God's call at the end of our lives. We must be willing to be trustworthy in small matters as we prepare for a larger decision of choosing to be with God or choosing to be separated from God. I pray that you will be trustworthy in all matters and that all your decisions center on God's glory. Take care and God Bless.
