Thursday in the First Week of Lent
Matthew 7: 7-12

Jesus said to his disciples: "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Which one of you would hand his son a stone when he asked for a loaf of bread, or a snake when he asked for a fish? If you then, who are wicked, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good things to those who ask him.

"Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for an end to abortion and the use of contraception.

When it came time to shop for a present for my nephew, my fiance and I wanted to give him a good gift. We walked all around the store, passing by Transformers, race cars and other things that he loves. It would have been easy to buy something that he already enjoys.

As we walked through the aisles, we found something that was a "eureka" moment: a digital camera that was Cars themed. The thought being that he already had a lot of toys that he could play with, but with this he could go outside of what is comfortable. It could help spark social interaction by asking people to pose while he took the photo. It could inspire creativity as he got to use the camera more and more.

We know that God gives us good gifts. I wonder if, when my nephew saw the camera, he saw the potential but didn't know the process. It was familiar enough to where he knew what it was, but he may have never used a camera.

As we receive "good gifts" from God, we may not know what we're receiving. It could be a hardship in our lives. It could be a something that is unknown. Yet, as we receive His gifts with gratitude, hopefully we will learn how to go outside of ourselves and our comfort levels. In that, hopefully we will come to better know Our God Who encounters us and loves us beyond our understanding.

Take care and God Bless.
