1 Kings 2: 1-4, 10-12
When the time of David's death drew near, he gave these instructions to his son Solomon: "I am going the way of all flesh. Take courage and be a man. Keep the mandate of the LORD, your God, following his ways and observing his statutes, commands, ordinances, and decrees as they are written in the law of Moses, that you may succeed in whatever you do, wherever you turn, and the LORD may fulfill the promise he made on my behalf when he said, 'If your sons so conduct themselves that they remain faithful to me with their whole heart and with their whole soul, you shall always have someone of your line on the throne of Israel.'"
David rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. The length of David's reign over Israel was forty years: he reigned seven years in Hebron and thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
Solomon was seated on the throne of his father David, with his sovereignty firmly established.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for people who struggle with depression.
Last night, I was watching a television show that had a son writing his father's eulogy so that he could see the goodness in his father.
There is a strange thing about death and dying that brings to light the truth. David knew that his time was short, and as any loving father would do, he gives his son instructions on how to live his life. As David is dying, his last words are not to carry on David's legacy or not to bring shame upon his family. Rather, his request is that he stays faithful to The Lord.
All of our time on earth is short. We have so many things and people to answer to, but we must always remember in the shortness of time that the only thing we must be concerned with is being faithful to The Lord. It is in humble obedience to Him alone that we are called to spend the rest of our short lives. Your worries are a mere obstacle that takes your eyes and your heart away from humble obedience.
Fear not, for The Lord, Your God, is at your side. Take care and God Bless.
