John 6:44-51
Jesus said to the crowds: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. It is written in the prophets:
They shall all be taught by God.
Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my Flesh for the life of the world."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for a conversion of heart for people in the media, that more people in the media use their gifts to promote a culture of life.
I was asked today at work, "Why is it important that you go to daily mass?"
Why did people travel thousands of miles to find the fountain of youth? Why do people spend thousands of dollars on cryogenics? Why do people spend thousands of hours trying to make sure they have a legacy to pass on? They all fear death.
Life has no meaning without God. We can spend all the money we have in the world trying to preserve our lives in the means of breath and heartbeat, but it is inevitable that one day we will breathe our last breath in these mortal bodies.
So, we have people who are living their lives for today because, "Today is all we have!" People work so hard trying to live for today that they forget that "Life has no meaning without God." Once again, they fear death so much that their mantra leads them to reach for creation versus receive from The Creator.
At daily mass, I truly receive The Body of Christ, in His Most Holy Word and in The Most Holy Eucharist. Jesus tells us in today's reading that, "whoever eats this bread will live forever." With this in mind, the question should be turned around: "What could be so important that I couldn't go to daily mass?" Everyday at mass, we receive the grace of eternal life. It would take a lifetime to list all the graces that come from receiving and consuming "The Bread of Life."
So, back to the question asked today, "Why is it important that you go to daily mass?" My response was a bullet-point item in the long list of graces. Let us rejoice and be glad in Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who freely gives us eternal life! Take care and God Bless.
