Mark 2:23-28
As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain. At this the Pharisees said to him, "Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?" He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?" Then he said to them, "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for an end to abortion.
"The sabbath was made for man: a reaffirmation of the divine intent of the sabbath to benefit Israel as contrasted with the restrictive Pharisaic tradition added to the law." - New American Bible Commentary
God provides for our weaknesses.
Keeping the sabbath holy is a weekly reminder that God provides for us in our weakness. In today's reading, Christ reminds us of God's mercy.
Today marks the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. It is a day that we're reminded how many have lost sight of God's mercy. There are souls that are suffering from this acceptance of the modern day holocaust, from the babies who are murdered to the parents who have lost hope.
As we pray this day for an end to abortion, may we never forget God's mercy so that we may testify to His goodness and offer hope to those in need. Take care and God Bless.
