Matthew 22: 34-40

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, "Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?" He said to him, "You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

Dawg's Thought:

Today's prayer intention - for those you know who have been away from the Church, that they may come back.

For some reason, reading through today's reading makes me thankful that the Sadducees and Pharisees tested Jesus. Jesus was able to use their folly to be able to teach us today.

As I reflected on today's reading, I thought about my day today. The commandments seem so simple, yet I am having a great struggle with them. If I were to hold the actions of my day toward the candle of today's reading, I would see all of the flaws and imperfections. Although the candle of the greatest commandments burns bright, I was off in the distance, frustrated and not knowing why.

I tried to write while the candle was far away, but instead I just scribbled words that seemed like I was close to the candle, but in the end, you can tell that they are mere scribbles.

Every now and then I had reminders to bring me back to the light of the candle, and I was able to write well in those times. Yet, God gave me the gift of this light ... this "greatest commandment" of today's reading ... for my good; not His for He is good.

As St. Augustine said, "Love, and do what you will." Take care and God Bless.
