Luke 9: 28b-36
Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up a mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for those who are engaged at this time.
"Jesus wanted his disciples in particular those who would be responsible for guiding the nascent Church to have a direct experience of his divine glory, so that they could face the scandal of the Cross." - Pope Benedict the XVI
* * *
Lord Jesus, Son of the Father,
You brought Peter, James and John up the mountain
where You were transfigured as You prayed.
How amazing would it have been to be there!
How my heart would be overflowing
to see Your transfigured face and dazzling garments!
In our current times as we struggle with our own cross,
remind us to pray with such fervor that our souls will be transfigured
as You were transfigured.
You were radiant as You contemplated the will of The Father.
If I desire to radiate Your light, must I contemplate the will of The Father as well?
If so, Lord, then help me to pray Your prayer in the Garden:
"Not as I will, but as You will, Father."
In these times, it is hard to find time to contemplate The Father's will.
As I pray before You now, help me to desire to spend time in contemplation
more than I desire to numb the ache of my heart;
the ache that longs for You, My Lord and My God.
Transform the desire of my heart, Lord,
so that You may be glorified.
Take care and God Bless.
