John 6: 35-40
Jesus said to the crowds, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. But I told you that although you have seen me, you do not believe. Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day."
Dawg's thought:
Once again, the scriptures remind us how we should TRUST in the Lord.
Christ came to give Himself as a "gift" to us: "I am the Bread of Life."
Christ gives Himself to us fully, totally and completely. Christ does not hold back from us, yet we hold so much back. We hold on to fear because we cannot TRUST in the Lord. This lack of trust began with original sin when Satan lies to Eve in the garden knowing that Eve is the perfect model of "receiving the gift." In his deceitful words he tells Eve, "Do not TRUST your Maker! He does not love you! He is holding back from you!"
Yet, in today's reading, we know that Christ did not hold anything back. We know that Christ gives His whole self to us. We know that the lies of Satan that God is holding back is a lie. We know that the lies of Satan that God does not love is is a lie. We know that God loves us. We know that we have nothing to fear because God is with us. Christ speaks to us all these words of comfort: "I am the Bread of Life."
"I should not lose anything of what He gave me."
Christ gives us His word that we will never be forgotten. Therefore, it is our decision to choose this covenant or not. It is our decision to love God fully, totally and completely. It is our decision to reconcile ourselves with Christ in order that He make take us and our lives.
Heaven has no room for pride. Heaven has no room for greed. Heaven has no room for lies. If we are going to be a part of this covenant, we must strive to be humble and obedient, rejecting all lies of Satan. We are called to deny ourselves: our pride, our fears, our doubts. We are called to TRUST that Jesus will never lose us. He gives us His Word. He gives us His Body. He gives us His Love. Take care and God Bless.
