Luke 8: 19-21
The mother of Jesus and his brothers came to him but were unable to join him because of the crowd. He was told, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and they wish to see you." He said to them in reply, "My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and act on it."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for mothers who have received an abortion, that they may be healed through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
A Sense of Belonging
We do many things in order to feel like we belong. We try to eat right... We exercise... We wear nice clothes... and none of those things are bad.
How often, though, do we think about obedience as a means of belonging? In our enlightened twentieth century thinking, we still have missed the point in what Christ tells us 2,000 years ago. There is nothing wrong with using the gifts that God gives you and taking care of the gifts that God gives you, but if it pulls you in the direction of disobedience, then what good is it?
Today, Christ calls us into His family by calling each of us to obedience. We see Christ, who was obedient to the will of The Father. We see Jesus' own family, Mary and Joseph, who likewise showed the same obedience to God. We see the twelve disciples, whom Jesus called and they dropped everything, and by doing so, "heard the word of God and acted upon it." There are angels and saints who share in this family we are all called to.
If you are still searching for that sense of belonging and acceptance, then come and live the life of humility and obedience and be a part of the family that will last for all eternity. Take care and God Bless.
