Matthew 28: 8-15
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce the news to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."
While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had happened. The chief priests assembled with the elders and took counsel; then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole him while we were asleep.' And if this gets to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." The soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has circulated among the Jews to the present day.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention - in thanksgiving for safe travels.
First of all, for those who were praying for my safe travels, thank you so much. I apologize for the long string of missed Dawg's thoughts, but Internet access was limited for me.
I had a chance to see many holy places on my trip to Italy. I went to mass at St. Peter's Basilica with Pope Benedict XVI. I went to holy places such as Assisi. I saw the home that Jesus, Mary and Joseph lived in in Loreto. I saw the veil of Veronica in Manoppello.
While seeing all of this, the thought that kept on occurring in my head was that there was no place that seemed more holy than places that I have been to close to home. Jesus is present before us in the Eucharist, and wherever He is present, it is holy.
It makes me think of Christ's words in today's reading: "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to Galilee, and there they will see me." Except, we don't have to go to Galilee to see Him. We don't have to go across the world to be with Our Lord, Who is resurrected from the dead.
No, our home is where we experience Christ. It is our home that we are called to bring Christ to. It is our home that one day, if we are truly living a life that glorifies God, people will come to visit because we have been a holy example for them.
Live a life that proclaims freedom from death. Live a life that proclaims freedom from sin. Live a life that proclaims the resurrection, and there they will see Jesus.
Take care and God Bless.
