1 Peter 5:5b-14
Beloved: Clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for:
God opposes the proud
but bestows favor on the humble.
So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.
Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your brothers and sisters throughout the world undergo the same sufferings. The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ Jesus will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little. To him be dominion forever. Amen.
I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Remain firm in it. The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son. Greet one another with a loving kiss. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for married couples, that God grants them the grace to grow in holiness within the sacrament.
This morning, driving into work, I was struck with a very blessed moment: I was cut off and honked at. I was driving the speed limit and I needed to get over, so I signaled and went into the next lane. The other driver proceeded to speed past me and then honk his horn in protest.
A thought entered my mind: you can't let him get away with that. Yet, I was in prayer and I felt at peace about letting him go. Then the temptation began to beat over and over again, trying to confuse the sin of pride to the virtue of justice.
So, armed with a twisted sense of justice, I proceeded to "attempt" to ride the persons bumper. It lasted for 5 seconds before the prayers I was in the middle of saying took over and God intervened within my own hardened heart.
Those who say that humility is for the weak are just plain wrong. To be humble is to be strong in Christ. To be humble is to be "sober and vigilant" in the face of "the Devil." In all that you do today, guard from any feeling of "pride" that come in the form of self-pity, recognition and approval. Rather, take on forgiveness and true charity, recognizing that it is truly the strong that rely on Christ rather than themselves. Take care and God Bless.
