Matthew 16: 13-19
When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for The Church.
I know that this is the reading from yesterday's Gospel versus today's, but it's a good one to reflect upon.
We hear different words at different times. I must have read and heard this reading over 50 times, but there was something that was never prominent until yesterday.
"And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it."
The gates of the netherworld will never prevail against The Church! Maybe this little line stood out more yesterday because of everything that is going on in The Church today. This little line should remind us that as a Church, we must strive for unity versus division. We must strive to obedience versus individuality. We must strive for things that are holy versus things that are profane. The trials of our Church this day is not an excuse to fall away from The Church but a reason to be more faithful to our calling as disciples of The Christ that gave His life and the cross. Our song of thanksgiving is when we are able to give our lives back to Him. Our song of thanksgiving is fidelity to the One True God, who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Our song of thanksgiving is the song of love through our acts of obedience.
Satan will never prevail over The Church. Have faith, brothers and sisters, for the words Christ speaks to us is Truth, and we must continue to proclaim The Truth by living The Truth. Take care and God Bless.
