Friday in the Fourth Week of Easter |
John 14: 1-6
Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you know the way." Thomas said to him, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention - for an end to abortion and the use of contraception.
Lord, how many things throughout the day "trouble" my heart!
It is a nice thought: to desire Heaven as our ultimate end. Yet, Heaven is the last thing on my mind when the mortgage is due. Heaven is the last thing on my mind when I install a Windows 7 update that is taking over half-an-hour in the middle of my work day (it is still updating, if you couldn't guess).
With that in mind, it is so easy to let my heart grow "troubled", and it does.
In our world today, there are so many people who have so much more suffering that I could ever handle. Even the thought of those who are suffering brings my heart "trouble".
It would be nice to think of Heaven as a place to escape from the anxiety of the world. In a way, it would be as if our lives were a form of waiting in a line to get into a concert (heaven) next to a smelly, arrogant man. I do not think that our lives would be a sort of waiting, especially since we share in the work of Christ ... share in the suffering of Christ ... share in the glory of Christ ...
If this is the case, then is Christ telling us that He is "the Way and the Truth and the Life" meant for us to not grow troubled here on earth as well as teaching us that through Him, we can have the hope of Heaven?
Lord, I wish that this could bring me more comfort,
but I trust in You and I trust in Your ways.
Help me to take comfort in You
here on earth as in Heaven.
Open my eyes to see struggles ...
responsibilities ... sufferings ...
joys ... all things here on this earth
as a way for You to reveal to me
how You are the Way ...
how You are the Truth ...
how You are the Life.
In seeing this and knowing this,
how can my heart be troubled?
Take care and God Bless.
