Matthew 20:20-28
The mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something. He said to her, "What do you wish?" She answered him, "Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and the other at your left, in your Kingdom." Jesus said in reply, "You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the chalice that I am going to drink?" They said to him, "We can." He replied, "My chalice you will indeed drink, but to sit at my right and at my left, this is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father." When the ten heard this, they became indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus summoned them and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the safety of Bishop Martin Jumoad of Isabel.
Today is the Feast of St. James.
Thursday nights are my date night with Jesus in adoration. I normally bring with me a guitar and I play a few songs before someone shows up.
When I got there, there was someone in there already. I got there a bit early and I figured that his time was wrapping up, but it wasn't. Then more people came in.
As I sat there, with the guitar at my side, I looked to Jesus and I was reminded that sometimes we need to sacrifice what we want to do so that others may grow in holiness. I had to refrain from playing music to Our Lord so that others may adore Him in their own way, and it was a tremendous blessing.
At the moment of Christ's glory, two thieves were at Jesus' right and left. One of them mocked him. The other got the words from Christ Himself: you will be with Me in paradise. James and John not being at Jesus' right and left gave way for this thief to glorify God and ultimately get into heaven.
There are things we are called to sacrifice, and in sacrifice we serve and we allow others to serve. Today, rejoice in the opportunities of sacrifice that you're called to, for in them, you may be serving others. Praise God for the sacrifices we are called to. Take care and God Bless.
