Hosea 11:1-4, 8e-9
Thus says the LORD:
When Israel was a child I loved him,
out of Egypt I called my son.
The more I called them,
the farther they went from me,
Sacrificing to the Baals
and burning incense to idols.
Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
who took them in my arms;
I drew them with human cords,
with bands of love;
I fostered them like one
who raises an infant to his cheeks;
Yet, though I stooped to feed my child,
they did not know that I was their healer.
My heart is overwhelmed,
my pity is stirred.
I will not give vent to my blazing anger,
I will not destroy Ephraim again;
For I am God and not man,
the Holy One present among you;
I will not let the flames consume you.
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for Christ's peace in your life today.
God loves us so much, and as I contemplate His great mercy, I am overwhelmed by my own sinfulness and His supreme goodness. I am also overwhelmed by how today's reading reminds us that "I am God and not man" in reference to how He will have mercy on us all. I am overwhelmed because I am reminded that I do not act out of mercy many times. I am overwhelmed because I know that I have a long way to go.
Yet, I am extremely hopeful because His mercy is abundant, and His ways are patient. I am hopeful because it is God who loves us, and it is in being humble enough to allow Him to love us do the deepest core of our being that we will be able to learn how to love and be merciful to one another. Let today's reading penetrate your heart so that you may learn to love as well. Take care and God Bless.
