Matthew 5: 43-48
Jesus said to his disciples: "You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have? Do not the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet your brothers only, what is unusual about that? Do not the pagans do the same? So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."
Dawg's thought:
Today's prayer intention is for the struggles in the Diocese of Phoenix, and especially for Bishop Thomas O'Brien.
Being Children of God
Can you imagine if God wasn't compassionate to those who persecuted Him? A large number of books would have been omitted from the Bible and Christianity would not exist in the western world.
If God wasn't compassionate to those who persecute Him, none of us would have any hope. In fact, we wouldn't even exist at this moment to hear the Word of God proclaimed to us. We have all fallen to worshiping idols in our lives. We have all turned our face from Our Loving God. We have all hurt God in some way or another, and yet God still loves us.
How can we deny compassion if we have been shown compassion by Our God? How can we say that God forgives us our sins if we are unwilling to forgive those who sin against us? How can we say we are Christians if we are not concerned with the lives and souls of every child of God who walks on the face of this earth? We must dedicate time in prayer for those who we have a hard time loving. We must dedicate our lives to spreading the Gospel message of Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Our lives must be dedicated to bringing the glory of God to all the ends of the earth, and we must begin with those who do not love us. This is Christ's challenge for us this morning, and every second of our lives.
We are children of God and we must live as children of God. God is compassionate, and as His children, we must also be compassionate. God forgives, and we must also forgive. God is love, and we are all called to love. May the peace of Christ be with you all. Take care and God Bless.
