Luke 21: 12-19
Jesus said to the crowd: "They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name. It will lead to your giving testimony. Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand, for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute. You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death. You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives."
Dawg's Thought:
Today's prayer intention - for the repose of the soul of Gretchen Hohenberg.
If God has prepared our defense beforehand, He knows how we will be heroic ... He knows how we will need to persevere ... He knows our path to being Saints.
Have you ever seen the television show "MacGyver"? Throughout the show, he picks up things that he might use later, such as a paper clip or duct tape. In the end of the show, he uses these things to help free someone who is captured.
The things that he normally picks up are random things that we wouldn't give a second thought to. Yet, it is these random things in which he can help others. It is in these random things that he can serve.
There were times in which I have had to defend my faith, and a lot of the inspiration and words have come from what God has provided beforehand. What seemed like a paperclip or a roll of duct tape became a way to pick the lock to a hardened heart or a way to mend something that was torn.
Looking back at this, it seems that many times God prepares us for what we need in order to persevere. If this is the case, are we doing ourselves a disservice by not receiving what God has in store for us today? Are we placing ourselves in a bad place by refusing to receive our circumstances today with joy? Are we jeopardizing the souls of others because we are indifferent when we hear the Word of God or receive the Sacraments?
Let us trust in God's providence yesterday, today and forever. In trusting in His providence, may we receive all things from Him with gratitude. Take care and God Bless.
